The 2018 Artists in Residence Summer Series features weekly residences from local artists who will be on site to work on their creative projects, and visitors may go to the casemate to meet and interact with the artists, ask questions about their project, and observe how the artists go about their creative work. This week's artists are Matt Watkins, an oil painter, and Scott McAllister, a printmaker.
Scott McAllister is a new media artist with credentials in print production, online asset development, and Android app creation. He has held a diverse list of roles, including the sole proprietor of Fredericton Artifactory, an instructor in NBCC’s Graphic Design department, and an independent contractor for small business needing graphic design and web development services. During his residency, Scott will design letterpress printed, hand-sized publications of people and things connected to the river. He will create them using research for the river and its people, culture, and stories. This written history will also be presented. Matt Watkins is a professional artist specializing in oil paint and metals. Appearing in almost 30 different exhibitions (including solo exhibitions such as Odyssey: Paintings of Grand Manan, Triple Play, and Bright Red Maple: Painting Autumn), He is also the owner of businesses Earthforge Jewellery and Symbiosis Fine Art, Inc.. During his residency, Matt will be creating a large 2x3’ studio painting with oil paints, featuring the river, bridges, and Fredericton skyline. Visitors will get to view his progress from start to finish and ask questions about the painting and the practice.
